Ramrods
and Hickory Sticks
Do
you like canes, but want something different? There's nothing like genuine Hickory
wood to get the job done. We offer this strong, dense, slightly
flexible wood in two versions.
* Please be
aware: Hickory does not have the flexibility of Rattan
and it will break if it is used very hard. It won't withstand
a slashing motion or full arm swinging.
Consequently, Hickory Sticks and Ramrods will
not be replaced for breakage as are our Rattan Canes.
The
Ramrod is an actual black powder muzzle loader's ramrod -- stained,
varnished and fitted with a brass "jag." This piece of hardware
adds authentic detail and fetish appeal, but it is also helpful for balance
and control of this 44" long rod.
The
Hickory Stick is roughly modeled on a 19th century American schoolroom
"blackboard pointer." Strictly speaking, the real article is
not as flexible as rattan, but not as rigid and unforgiving as bamboo
or birch. Perhaps that is why we have the old song about being, "taught
to the tune of a hick'ry stick."
As
used in old long-barreled muskets and rifles, our version of the Ramrod
has its genuine brass fittings. Both models come in two diameters each,
and have a leather "hanger" for convenience.
